John Smith (1667-1704) was the son of Matthew and Alice (Chief?) Smith of Charlestown, Massachusetts Bay. Ruth Cutler (1668-1758) was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Giles) Cutler of Studying, Massachusetts Bay. They’d 4 youngsters.
Their daughter, Mary Smith (1698-ca1746), married Ebenezer Phillips (1695-1746) in about 1717 in Charlestown. They’re my seventh great-grandparents via their son John Phillips (1722-1800).
