Seavers In The News — Mrs. Samuel R. Seaver Dies in 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri

It is time for an additional version of “Seavers within the Information” – a weekly function from the historic newspapers about individuals with the surname Seaver which are fascinating, helpful, mysterious, enjoyable, macabre, or add data to my household tree database.

This week’s entry is from The Kansas Metropolis [Mo.] Occasions newspaper dated 20 November 1952:

The Companies Might be Held at 2 o’clock Friday

“Mrs. D. Ethel Seaver, 69, died final night time on the house, 229 Ward parkway.  Mrs. Seaver was born in Tecumseh, Neb., and had been a resident of Kansas Metropolis twenty-three years.  Her husband, Samuel R. Seaver of the house, is gross sales supervisor of the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.  Mrs. Seaver was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal church.

“Additionally surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Paul E. Burks, Pasadena, Calif.; three sons, A.T. Seaver II, 6522 Pennsylvania avenue; Eugene Robert Seaver, Arlington, Va., and Jack P. Seaver, 4101 West Seventy-second avenue terrace, and a brother, Dale Bush, and a sister, Miss Laura Bush, Tecumseh.

“Companies might be held at 2 o’clock Friday on the Floral Hills chapel.  Burial might be in floral Hills cemetery.”

This obituary offers a reputation, an age, a loss of life date and place, the names of her husband, kids and siblings, a lead for her maiden title, plus a brief description of her husband’s occupation.

Ethel Daisy Bush was born 19 June 1883 in Tecumseh, Nebraska, the daughter of David R. and Sarah E. (Ross) Bush.  She died 19 November 1952 in Kansas Metropolis, Missouri.  She married Samuel ross Seaver (1884-1966) on 6 Could 1906 in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  They’d 5 kids:

*  Samuel Ross Seaver (1907-1911).
*  Helen Elizabeth Seaver (1910-1977), married 1931 Paul Emerson Burks (1907-1982).
*  Arthur Twining Seaver (1912-1998), married 1934 Dorothy Maydelle Shawver (1913-1982).
*  Eugene Robert Seaver (1915-1993), married 1943 Emily Hope McCoy (1914-2003).
*  Jack P. Seaver (1918-1997), married 1941 Amy Lucille Wahlberg (1919-2000).

I’m a fifth cousin 3x eliminated to Samuel Ross Seaver.  Our frequent Seaver ancestors are my eighth great-grandparents Joseph and Mary (Learn) Seaver.

There are over 10,000 Seaver “tales” in my household tree – and this was one among them.   Life occurs, by accident and deliberately, and typically an individual has all of her members of the family named of their obitury. I’m glad that I can honor Ethel Daisy (Bush) Seaver as we speak.
