It is time for one more version of “Seavers within the Information” – a weekly characteristic from the historic newspapers about individuals with the surname Seaver which can be fascinating, helpful, mysterious, enjoyable, macabre, or add data to my household tree database.
This week’s entry is from The Barre [Vt.] Every day Instances newspaper dated 4 December 1958:
The transcription of the article is:
“Mrs. Marie R. Seaver
“RANDOLPH — Mrs. Marie R. Seaver, 82, died yesterday at Gifford Memorial Hospital. She had been a affected person there for 2 weeks.
“She was born in West Pawlet Dec. 19, 1874, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Roberts. She resided in Williamstown for a few years and married Carl S. Seaver on March 27, 1895. Mr. Seaver died in 1947. A son, Howell A., died in 1943.
“She is survived by one son, Hugh L. of Randolph; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Howell G. Roberts of Granville, N.Y.
“She was a member of Charity Chapter, OES, in Williamstown, a previous matron and final residing constitution member. She had been a member for 55 years. In 1953 she joined the Residence Household on the OES Residence in Randolph.
“Funeral companies shall be held Friday morning at 10:30 from the Randolph Funeral Residence with the Rev. Charles Saum officiating.
“Burial shall be made within the household lot within the Williamstown Cemetery.
“Buddies might name on the funeral residence tonight from 7-8 o’clock.”

This obituary gives the title, delivery date and place, mother and father names, dying date and place, age, partner’s title, kids names, one sibling’s title, and several other associations.
Marie Roberts was born 19 December 1874 in West Pawlet, Vermont, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Jones) Roberts. She died 3 December 1958 in Randolph, Vermont. She married Carl West Seaver (1869-1947) on 27 March 1895 in Williamstown, Vermont. They’d two kids:
* Hugh Leland Seaver (1897-1979), married 1928 Ethel Pearl Rye (1893-1977).
* Howell Ashton Seaver (1901-1943), married 1924 Rhoda Mae Bruce (1900-1993).
Carl Weston Seaver is my seventh cousin 3x eliminated. The frequent Seaver ancestor is Robert Seaver (1608-1683) of Roxbury, Massachusetts.
There are over 10,000 Seaver “tales” in my household tree – and this was certainly one of them. Life occurs, by chance and deliberately, and typically an individual’s obituary has numerous life data. I’m glad that I can honor Marie R. (Roberts) Seaver in the present day.
