Faraday was the third child born to James Faraday and Margaret Hastwell. His family was not well off and could only afford him a basic education. At the age of 14, he began an apprenticeship with a local bookseller and educated himself by reading a wide range of scientific books. Despite his limited education, Faraday is often considered one of the most influential scientists in history.

Faraday was an excellent experimenter and inventor. In 1831, one of Faraday’s many experiments led to the discovery of electromagnetic induction, the principle behind the electric motor and generator. This significant discovery changed the future of science and transformed electricity into a powerful new technology.
