Profile of the Day: Maureen O’Sullivan

On this present day in 1911, actress Maureen O’Sullivan was born in Boyle, County Roscommon, Eire.

She was the daughter of Mary Eva Frazer and Charles Joseph O’Sullivan, an officer within the Connaught Rangers who served in World Conflict I. As a toddler, O’Sullivan attended a convent faculty in Dublin the place future Academy Award-winning actress Vivien Leigh was a classmate.

Found by Hollywood filmmaker Frank Borzage at a horse present in Dublin, O’Sullivan left Eire for the USA with a contract with Fox in 1929. Her profession in Hollywood took off when she was solid within the function of Jane in Tarzan the Ape Man. Between 1932 and 1942, Maureen appeared in six Tarzan options and have become often known as Eire’s first movie star.

In 1936, she married director John Farrow and so they remained married till his loss of life in 1963. They’d seven youngsters collectively, together with actress Mia Farrow.

O’Sullivan died on June 23, 1998 on the age of 87.
