Carringers in the News — Margaret Carringer Dies in 1960 in Canton, Ohio

It is time for an additional version of “Carringers within the Information” – a weekly function from the historic newspapers about individuals with the surname Carringer (my mom’s maiden surname) which can be fascinating, helpful, mysterious, enjoyable, macabre, or add info to my household tree database.

This week’s entry is from The Republic [Meyersville, Penn.] newspaper dated 4 February 1960:

The transcription of this text is:

“Mrs. Margaret Carringer, died in Canton, Ohio, Jan. 25.  She was born in Fairhope Township, Somerset County Feb. 27, 1887, a daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Kammerer.

“She is survived by three daughters.  Dorothy, Margaret and Helen, all at dwelling.

“Funeral was held Wednesday, Jan. 27.  Mr. and Mrs. Eber Cockley, the latter a niece, attended the funeral.”

The supply quotation is:

This obituary supplies a loss of life date and place, a beginning date and place, mother and father names, and the names of her youngsters, however nothing about her occupation, faith or associations.

Margaret E. (Kammerer) Carringer was born 27 February 1887 in Fairhope Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (–?–) Kasmmerer.  She married James Clare Carringer (1880-1934) on 20 Could 1920 in Lake County, Ohio.  He was the son of Hudson E. and Jennie E (Skiff) Carringer.  James Clare and Margaret E. (Kammerer) Carringer had three youngsters:

*  Dorothy E. Carringer (1917-2008).
*  Margaret Claire Carringer (1921-1982).
*  Helen L. Carringer (1923-1982).

I’m a 3rd cousin two occasions eliminated to James Clare Carringer.  Our frequent ancestors are my 4th great-grandparents Martin Carringer (1758-1835) and Maria Magdalena Hoax (1768-1851). 

There are a whole lot of Carringer “tales” in my household tree – and this was one in all them.   Life occurs, by chance and deliberately, and typically an individual has an obituary with household info however no different info.  I’m glad that I can honor Margaret E. (Kammerer) Carringer as we speak.
