Carringers in the News — J. Raymond Carringer Dies in 1966 in Florida

 It is time for one more version of “Carringers within the Information” – a weekly function from the historic newspapers about individuals with the surname Carringer (my mom’s maiden surname) which are fascinating, helpful, mysterious, enjoyable, macabre, or add data to my household tree database.

This week’s entry is from The Palm Seaside Publish [West Palm Beach, Fla.] newspaper dated 6 January 1966:

The transcription of the article is:


“Mr. J. Raymond Carringer, 79, of 55 Excessive St., Summit, N.J., a winter customer on the Breakers Resort, Palm Seaside, died as we speak at St. Mary’s Hospital.

“Mr. Raymond was a retired vice-president of Customary Oil Firm of New Jersey.

“Survivors embody his widow, Marguerite; a son, Donald of Franklin Park, N.J., and a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Pfaff of New York Metropolis.

“Requiem Mass shall be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Palm Seaside,.  Mates could name from 7 to 9 p.m. as we speak on the Kemper-Vogel Funeral Dwelling.  Mates who ish could donate to the Coronary heart Fund.”

This obituary offers a demise date and place, an age, the names of his spouse and kids, and a few details about his occupation or associations.

James Raymond Carringer (1886-1966) was born 13 December 1886 in Olean, New York to Wilbert H. and Mary M. (Lundy) Carringer.  He married (1) on 3 July 1909 to Roberta Loughlin (1888-1958) in St. Louis, Missouri.  That they had two youngsters:
*  Mary Virginia Carringer (1910-1977), married 1930 John Joseph Pfaff (1910-1975).
*  James Raymond Carringer (1917-1943).
He married (2) on 20 September 1932 to Margaret J. Hauck (1901-1974) in Allentown, Pennsylvania.  That they had one little one:
*  Donald Wilbert Carringer (1936-2005), married 1959 Nancy Ann Beekman (1938-????).

I’m a second cousin twice eliminated to  James Raymond Carringer.  Our frequent ancestors are my third great-grandparents Henry Carringer (1800-1879) and Sarah Feather (1804-1848). 

There are tons of of Carringer “tales” in my household tree – and this was one in all them.   Life occurs, by accident and deliberately, and typically an individual works in trade and dies away from dwelling.  I’m glad that I can honor James Raymond Carringer as we speak.
