“Della A. Carringer,” San Diego [Calif.] Union newspaper, Tuesday, 4 January 1944, web page 6B, column 1, Della A. Carringer obituary;   GenealogyBank, Obituaries ( : accessed 24 January 2022).

I made the newspaper once more.  My maternal grandfather’s mom, Della A. (Smith) Carringer (1862-1944) died lower than three months after my delivery.  I’m certain that she held me and talked to me.  I want she had lived longer so I had some reminiscences of her.  I do have some ephemera and artifacts from her life.  She was a really achieved and philosophical lady, and I want that they had given many extra particulars of her life.

This obituary signifies that they lived of their dwelling – the primary ground of the home I grew up in – since 1897 or 1898  46 years.  They constructed the two-story home, moved the home about 60 toes north and added a second residence on the second ground in about 1928, furnished it (Henry was a grasp carpenter), had a horse, gardens and berry patches, and rather more.  She dealt with the entire actual property transactions, paid the payments, ran the family, was a musician, and first voted within the 1908 election.  She saved in contact along with her associates, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins, and I’ve an 1880’s scrapbook and a 1929 diary of hers, plus a number of letters.

There are tons of of Carringer “tales” in my household tree – and this was one in all them. Life occurs, by chance and deliberately, and generally a newspaper article offers extra element about your very shut household.  I’m glad that I can honor my great-grandmother, Della A. (Smith) Carringer, in the present day.
