To all Individuals to whom this Deed of Sale Shall come Greeting Know ye That 

Obadiah Sawtell of Groton within the County of Middlesex within the province of the Massachu-
setts Bay in New England yeoman for and in Consideration of the Sum of 300 kilos
of fine and Currant cash of New England to him in hand properly and really paid earlier than
the Ensealing and supply hereof by his son Hezekiah Sawtell of Groton aforesaid hus-
bandman the Receipt whereof to full Content material and Satisfaction he doth hereby ackno-
ledge and himself therewith absolutely Glad and thereof and of each half thereof doth ful-
ly acquit launch and discharge the stated Hezekiah Sawtel his heirs and assigns endlessly
Hath given granted bargained and Bought and by these Presents doth with the free & full
Consent of Hannah his now married spouse testified by her signing and sealing of this
Deed) absolutely freely clearly & Completely give grant cut price promote aliene Enfeoffe
convey and Verify unto the stated Hezekiah Sawtel and to his heirs and assigns for-
ever All that the houselott or homested belonging to the s’d Obadiah Sawtel situate
mendacity and being within the township of Groton afores’d on each side the nation Street
resulting in Lancaster with the home and Barn thereon standing the stated Land contain-
eth in the entire Thirty acres extra or much less and consisteth of upland meadow plow-
land woodland mowing land and Pasture land; one parcel whereof lyeth on the wester-
ly facet of s’d nation highway & containeth about twenty two acres extra of much less and is bound-
ed Easterly to stated Freeway northeasterly by the Brook in Broad meadow so far as ^to^ the
place the place the Ditch meets with the brook westerly by meadow of Jona’ Paige to the
upland after which by the stated broad meadow Southeasterly partly by land of Sam’l Barron
and half Southerly and Easterly by land now belonging to Josiah Sawtel a freeway
going by way of some a part of stated land to broad meadow aforesaid.  The opposite parcel of
stated houselott mendacity on the Easterly Aspect of stated countrey Street containeth eight Acres
roughly and is bounded Westerly to the stated countrey highway Southwardly by Josiah
Sawtell because the fence stands and elsewhere by land and meadow which previously be-
longed to Jonas Prescott Esq’r deced.  Additionally a parcel of upland and Swampy meadow-
land mendacity and being at a spot known as the Patches containing by Estimation forty
acres roughly and is all that which was laid out to and stands recorded in Groton
city document e book to Richard and Obadiah Sawtel or both of them on the place afores’d bound-
ed Northerly by the freeway and all different factors by land previously John Barron’s and
Nicholas Hutchins and city Frequent or nonetheless in any other case bounded or reputed to be
bounded; additionally a 5 acre Proper Share or Proportion in all of the undivided Land
in Groton afores’d in all future Draughts and Divisions (being a part of the twenty acre
Proper which previously belonged to Richard Sawtell deced).  To have and to carry
all and singular the above granted Land and premises with each half thereof to-
gether with all of the buildings and fences thereon standing and being with the income privileges &
appurtenances thereof to him the stated Hezekiah Sawtell his heirs and assigns to his and their very own
sole and correct use profit and behoof endlessly.  And the stated Obadiah Sawtel for himself his heirs
Execut’s and admin’r doth covenant promise and grant to and with the stated Hezekiah Sawtell his
heirs and assigns That on the time of the ensealing and supply hereof he the stated Obadiah Sawtel
is the one lawful proprietor of the abovegranted premises and is lawfully seiz’d thereof in his personal
correct Proper as of a superb and indefeasable Property of Inheritance in Charge easy having in
himself good Proper full energy and lawful authority so to get rid of the premises and that
the stated Hezekiah Sawtel his heirs and assigns shall and will always endlessly hereafter
lawfully quietly and peaceably have maintain up and benefit from the premises free and clearly dis-
charged of and from all former Presents Grants bargains Gross sales Leases Conveyances Jointures

Extents and of and from all different Incumbrances Additional the s’d Obadiah
Sawtell doth Covenant promise bind and oblige himself his heirs Execut’rs & adm’rs
to Warrant Safe and defend all of the abovegranted Land and premises and the appurt-
tenances thereof unto the s’d Hezekiah Sawtel his heirs and assigns in opposition to the lawful
Claims and calls for of all and each individual and individuals whomsoever endlessly by these
Presents.  In Witness whereof the stated Obadiah Sawtell and Hannah Sawtell his
spouse have hereunto set their arms and seals the twenty third day of March An-
no Domini 1723 within the Tenth yr of his Maj’s Reign.  Obadiah Sawtell his mark ‘O’ and Seal,
Hannah Sawtell her mark ‘m’ and Seal. Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of William

The inside named Obadiah Sawtel together with his spouse the inside named Hannah Sawtel each
personally appeared and acknowledged the inside written Instrum’t to be their voluntary
act and Deed Earlier than me John Houghton Simply’e of the Peace.

The entire lands of Richard Sawtell (1611-1694) in Groton have been bequeathed to Obadiah Sawtell in his 1692 will.  Obadiah and Hannah (Lawrence) Sawtell are my seventh great-grandparents, married in about 1680 in Watertown, and so they had 13 kids.  Hezekiah Sawtell (1703-1779) was their thirteenth little one, and is my sixth great-grandfather.  

On the time of the signing of this deed in February, 1724/5, Obadiah was age 76 and Hannah was age 62.  Hezekiah was age 22 and not too long ago married.  All however one of many dwelling kids of Obadiah and Hannah Sawtell had married and a number of other had purchased or acquired land from their dad and mom.  Whereas it’s not documented or conditioned within the deed, it’s doubtless that Obadiah and Hannah continued dwelling on their homestead with Hezekiah’s household till their deaths.  

This is without doubt one of the three deeds I’ve discovered that identify Hannah as Obadiah’s spouse after 1707.  I feel that it is extremely doubtless she is Hannah (Lawrence) Sawtell (1661-after 1726) and the deed reveals that she was alive on 17 February 1724/5 when she was current and signed the deed by mark.  A later deed was signed by Hannah on 28 September 1726.
